Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
A week ago I slipped in water on a tile floor and landed on my knee. I iced it off/on for 4 hours and took it easy for a week (no heavy exercises). I can walk without pain but it is still tender to the touch, especially at the top of the kneecap. More concerning is the shock/zing I feel when it is accidentaly bumped. Did I tear something or damage a nerve?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. It might be soft tissue injury or fracture. Without X-ray, it is difficult to differentiate a fracture from others. I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance. In the interim, apply ice packs to the affected area,anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight rest well.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
