Suggest Medication For Manic Depression Which Does Not Cause Akathisia

About 6 months ago i was taking seroquel XR 150 for sleep, and i developed mild akathisia. Two months ago i was switched from celexa to paxil and the akathisia came back even worse. my leg muscles felt like they had just been through a marathon. I have manic depression, and should be on medication, but i dont want to take anything that will bring the akathisia back.

Hello thanks for asking from Health Care Magic

You have developed akathisia with Qutiapine 150. Later you were shifted to paroxetine from escitalopram. Escitalopram again caused akathisia. Most of SSRI drugs are known to cause akathisia, but some like Sertraline doesn't cause much restlessness and akathisia if we compare the drug with other SSRIs. The drug is relatively safe drug and should not cause much restlessness. You can discuss with your psychiatrist for that drug.
Drugs like Propranolol can be used in akathisia. Propranolol results in improvement of symptoms of restlessness. Clonazepam also result in decrease in symptoms of akathisia. Visit your psychiatrist for evaluation.

Thanks, hope this helps you
