Suggest Medication To Relieve Breakthrough Pain

I have severe interstitial cystitis and I am on a 75 mg fentanyl patch, but I need something for breakthrough pain when then patch is just not enough. I have used perceced in the pass but it started locking up my bladder to were it would not empty, so I switched to Demerol (meperitab) now my insurance company says I must switch to something else, because meperitab is not covered by my plan. What would you recommend I switch to?

Hi,

I am so sorry to hear about this difficulty getting the right medications that work for you. Have you ever tried morphine? or sevredol? These may be good alternatives to you. However, I will suggest that you provide a list of the approved drugs by your insurance company so that we may be able to choose from what they suggest. If finances are not hard on you, go with what works best for you!

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
