Suggest Medications For Overall Body Growth In Children

My daughter is a dextrocardiac , age 12 yrs but her height is equivalent to my younger baby of 9 yrs , there is a confirmed defeciancy of height and overall body growth. kindly suggest which form of medicine to be adopted for her overall growth........Thanks.....Ashraf kasmani

Hi, dextrocardia alone will not cause poor growth unless associated with any other cardiac abnormality. Short stature is most commonly familiar and runs in families and has no treatment. To rule out other causes of Short stature, get a hemogram, Thyroid profile, LFT, RFT, Serum electrolyte, Urine routine microscopy,ESR, FSH and LH levels and Xray of wrist, chest and knee joint for bone age. Short stature has no treatment on its own. If any cause of it is found, we treat the cause. Keep good nutrition for the child in form of calories, proteins and anti oxidants. Give your child Calcium supplements and de-worm her with Tablet Albendazole 400mg single tablet once. Once, all infectious causes of short stature are ruled out, Give her iron supplementation along with folic acid.
