Hi, Microalbuminuria is a condition in which kidneys start filtering proteins in the urine. It usually occurs in diabetics and occasionally in hypertensives also. To control microalbuminuria, the most important step is to keep your sugar and blood pressure well controlled. once they are controlled, the further progression of microalbuminuria is slowed down. Salt restriction also helps. There are certain medications which can be started like ACE inhibitors, but I feel they can only be started after certain investigations like kidney function test and serum electrolytes. Many studies have been carried out to study the complications of microalbuminuria. What I would like to tell you is that if not controlled it can affect multiple organs- esp proteinuria and diabetic nephropathy (diabetic kidney disease) and can even further have cardiopulmonary effects (on heart and lungs).
