Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband is 59 years old and was diagnosed with high BP. 177/111. Now on co-tareg 80 mg daily. He complains of being tired and cannot get an erection? His BP came down to 109/ 65 and seems stable, higher when he wakes up though. Is there anything else he can use that will have less side effects. Almost impossible to get him to a dr.

Hello Welcome to HCM Thanks for posting your query.I understand your concerns.Co-tareg is a combination drug that contains Valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide. Valsartan works by blocking the effect of angiotensin II. As a result, blood vessels relax and blood pressure is lowered. Hydrochlorothiazide increases urine output, which also lowers blood pressure.
Both are very good drugs. But the initial side effects will be dizziness, tiredness, dehydration, blurred vision which are common when you start the drug.Gradually body will get adjusted to it.
Side effects will be present in all the drugs. So, i would advice your husband to continue the same drug.
Hope this helps you
Thank you
