Suggest Mitral Valve Inflow Pattern Is Grade 2 Diastolic Dysfunction. Is The Heart Condition Fine?
I am F, 73, diagnosed with MVP at 39 with irregular heartbeat and tachycardia. Put on atenolol. In 2011 heart cath which showed blood flows differently at rest than during exercise. Dr. said heart is ok except for mild mitral and tricuspid regurgitation. In 2012 BP up and down too low or too high and dizziness. Cut meds in half. Now 2013, had another echo and it showed mild concentric LVH and EF 66, normal. The mitral valve inflow pattern is grade 2 diastolic dysfunction. If my heart ok? will this lead to heart failure? The doctor says to return in a year for another echo.
Dear Madam Thanks for writing to HCM. The ECHO report states that your heart has mild degree of effects of high blood pressure. The diastolic dysfunction occurs as a result of decrease relax-ability of heart which may be due to high blood pressure and old age in your case. LVH it self is a predictor for heart failure, however do not panic. The chances are not substantial with mild LVH and can be reversed with good control of blood pressure and life style modifications. Hope this helps. Feel free to discuss further with details. Sincerely Sukhvinder
