Suggest Remedies For Blocked Vocal Chord Leading To Choking
in 2005 I had a spinal fusion, 3 levels in neck. Dr cut my throat and pull everything to the side for a 9 hr surgery, to get to my spine. I wound up with a paralyzed right vocal chord. It took more than a yr to find out. My allergy dr was concerned I had a blockage. I was scoped and found out. I have choked quite often, and sometines it is only air, not food or drink. I went to therapy for about 6 months. What would you recommend for me. When I choke, I feel I am going to die. My husband just tells me to breath.
Hi. Thanks for your query. I have read and understood that you had undergone the surgery for spinal fusion of 9 hours and got the paralysis of the right vocal cord. Now you getting a problem of choking for air off and on. The best solution for such a problem of paralyzed vocal cord is a Surgery called Thyroplasty. In Thyroplasty a small incision is made in front of the thyroid cartilage and a cartilage or silastic material is placed in such a way that the paralyzed cord gets lateralized permanently and you also get a permanent relief from choking sensation.
I hope this answer helps to get a permanent solution.
