General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The burning sensation maybe due to neuropathy. This refers to abnormal function of the nerves.

This can present with burning or tingling or stinging or sticking or numbness etc, any altered sensation.

It can be temporary or permanent and there are different possible causes such as: (1) abnormal levels of vitamin b6, either too high or low levels can cause this problem

(2)diabetes

(3)low levels of vitamin b12 or folate

(4)trauma to the nerves eg arthritis of the back can compress the nerves going out to the legs

(5)liver or kidney disease

(6)thyroid disease

(7)side effect of medication

(8)infection such as shingles

(9)neurological conditions such as ms or stroke

(10)exposure to toxins

To find the cause, you would need to be seen by your doctor for assessment.

This would include general examination and a central nervous examination.
Investigations would be needed such as complete blood count, ESR (checks for inflammation in the body), liver and kidney function, thyroid function tests, vitamin levels.

Treatment would depend somewhat on the cause found but there are also medications that help to treat nerve related pain eg gabapentin, amitriptyline, tegretol, lyrica

I hope this helps
