Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My ankles have suddenly started to swell. I am semi active & over the years I have noticed this condition but it usually goes away without me having to do anything. I also notice that I have begun to develop a gut. I don t exercise much but I do a little walking around the block.
there are many causes of ankle swelling but most common is hypertension. I mean high blood pressure. it puts more pressure on the heart and it causes swelling. Other causes are Diabetes and thyroid. I would suggest you to get your blood pressure check and also recommend you to check your blood sugar and thyroid profile. If you are already on treatment for these disease then it shows that your disease is not under control. Rarely this ankle swelling is caused by ankle synovitis.
