Suggest Remedy For Bleeding Head Injury

I fell and hit the back of my head very hard on the nightstand yesterday morning during a nightmare and awoke laying on the floor with a bloody head. I applied pressure with hotel towels and bleeding finally stopped about an hour or so after. I drove three hours home. I have a goose egg but it did go down some from yesterday. No issues with headache, slurring, vomiting , etc. I did take a baby gayer aspirin and cinnamon , as part of my daily health take, but quit taking those today due to the blood thinning of these products. Is there anything else I should do ? I want to take an ibuprofen 800 for my back ache but read where you should not take that either...,

Thank you for suggestions

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. As there was no headache, slurring, vomiting and you are conscious and oriented, your head injury is not dangerous. Usually bleed stops with time. If not, then
: you can apply ice/cold compresses at injure site.
: direct pressure
: if large wound(>3cm length and >1cm width), suturing may be required
: dressing

No need of taking painkiller like aspirin or ibuprofen, if you don't have headache. If you are fine, active, able to do your work and routine activities, no need to take any medication.
Maintain hygiene at injury site by washing hair.
Observe injury site for a week and look for any pus discharge, blood. In case of such complaint, contact doctor. He might advise you dressing, antibiotic course like co-amoxyclav therapy.

Thanks. Hope it will help you. Take care.

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. The bleeding at injury site can be controlled by firm pressure for 5 or more minutes. It is true that blood thinner drugs like NSAIDS, Heparin, Warfarin, other anti platelets can cause non stop bleeding. But in case of scalp skin, even small wound or cut causes profuse bleeding due to
: Good vascular supply - multiple arteries supply scalp and so it is richly vascular

: Tight subcutaneous tissue - tissue below skin is very tight and it contains vessels. Injuries vessels do not constrict properly due to it and bleed continuously.

In your case, all these could be the reason behind profuse bleeding. It is good that your head injury is mild and you do not have signs of dangerous head injury. For swelling and relief in pain, you can follow few tips

: apply icepacks at injury site
: keep your head at higher level than chest
: Non-NSAIDS painkiller like tramadol, paracetamol after proper prescription
: avoid pressure at injury site

Hope it will help you. If still no relief, you can consult doctor.

Thanks. Take care.
