I have bursitis in my left hip and leg. my doctor gave me two shots but they do not seem to help with the pain at night. she also gave me voltaren gel to rub on the painful areas. would prednisone be a better med to take for this? I can not sleep through the night with this pain. it is going on 7 weeks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to bursitis. Treatment for bursitis usually involves resting the joint as much as possible. You can also use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen or naproxen to relieve pain and swelling. You also may want to use an ice pack on the area to reduce swelling. If the symptoms continue, I suggest to see an orthopedist.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
