Suggest Remedy For Diarreah

hi my son is 1 and a half years old and he has been suffering from diarreah on and off.about a month and a half back he was hospiltalised twice with high fever and diarreah. all the tests results were negative only the WBC counts were slightly higher but the culture analysis were negative. about a week back he started vommitting and just wouldn't stop. he would vommit even if he had just water. we took him to the hospital and he was administered an injection to stop his vommitting and he subsequently developed diarreah. we had given him zionide and g norm based on doctors advice. His diarrea has got cured but he passes stools three times a day varying colours and consistencies. I had given his stool tests(stool Microscopy and Rotaviral ), his microscopic results hav returned negative except for two one his reaction has returned - ACIDIC and Pus cells as - Occassional/hpf awaiting the rotaviral result. is this normal?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
It is highly uncommon for a one and half year old boy to have recurrent diarrhea unless there is contamination by a oral route as the child of this age starts putting in anything that is in contact with him.
Hence the cause of the recurrent diarrhea can be found out by proper observation and taking all the care that the child does not put in anything in mouth, particularly the ones that can be highly contaminated.
This give gastroenteritis although recurrent viral attacks can such a problem and the results of stool tests are awaited.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Send the stool samples for tests for three consecutive days and a course of an antibiotic, metronidazole and probiotics should help you child to have control over diarrhea.
You should feed him anything that is fresh, home-cooked and easily palatable considering the age.
Use boiled and cooled water and give multivitamins with zinc.
