Suggest Remedy For Foul Odor In Nostrils Post A Bout Of Cold

I usually suffer from allergies which cause me to sneeze a lot, clogged ears, congestion etc. Lately, I had a very bad cold with excessive mucus. It lasted for more than two weeks. After taking Claratin D which helps a lot with decongestion, the cold cleared but I was left with a nasty odor in my nostrils which only I can smell. The smell is between sweet, pungent and moldy. Sometimes it smells like rotten fruits. Today is the 6th day. The smell wave comes like every 40 minutes. Please help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms can be related to post nasal drip. I suggest using an anti-congestant such as Dexometorphan. I also suggest to drink liquids, and also use a humidifier at home. If the symptoms continue you should see an ENT specialist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
