hello doctor my son have problem about losing a popo his popo is like a rock he cannot push it.. he can push it by using a soposotory but after he did that there is a blood i am worried about it everyday,although now he drink a lot of water.. what can i do about it doc.. please help me .. thank you
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history about your son and understood the concerns. Very hard stool that is difficult to push means the stood is devoid of water not because there is less water intake but due to the fact that it may have less fibers, intestines has reabsorbed more water as the transit time might have been too long. Hence I would advise fr him the following: First of all get an X-ray of the abdomen in standing position to see if the large bowel is loaded with fecolith. If so then he will need a soap water enema to evacuate the fecoliths that is hard stools. Once cleared you have to adjust his diet in such a way that it has sufficient amount of fibers and takes stool softener and laxative regularly till the bowel move properly and pass normal motion. If this does not help, he may need colonoscopy and biopsy to rule out any disease. Barium enema studies may also be needed and also have to have additional treatment as per the cause thus found.
