Hi Doctor, My question is my mother is 73 yo she starting taking NamendaXR the tritration packet until she got to 28 mg dose. She began to experience headaches almost everyday the last week since she got to 28 mg. Do she need to stop taking or see prescribing doctor again? She also takes Aricept nightly along with a Namenda.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Headache is a common side effect of Namenda XR. There is no need to stop it unless headache is intolerable and can’t be managed by pain killer. Possible course of action is dose reduction of Namenda XR.
Advice
1.     Continue Namenda XR and Aricept as suggested by your doctor
2.     Consult your doctor for possibility of dose reduction. Please do not alter dose or stop it by yourself unless suggested by your doctor
3.     Ibuprofen 400 mg orally after meal if headache is intolerable. Otherwise avoid it
I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question
