Suggest Remedy For Lower Back Pain

Hello Doctor, I am 80 years old and I am getting a lot of pain in my lower back on the left side. I know it doesn't help with me slouching in my armchair most of the day. I bought a recliner chair but I find it a bit too firm and uncomfortable. Is there anything I can do to help myself

Hello there,
Thank you for your question.
For your age you have rightly said that slouching in the armchair will worsen your lower backache. Try to sit straight and even if you want to lie on the recliner use a back rest like a pillow below your lower back. Do not take pain killers for the pain as for your age pain killers can do more harm than good. If severe take a Paracetamol 500mg tab for a few days. Use hot bag for hot fomentation to relieve the pain. If you can exercise it will be great help to reduce the back pain, but if your overall health permits.
If pain is severe and not relieved with all these remedies then do not ignore and please visit a physician who can examine you and suggest an X ray or scan if required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
