Suggest Remedy For Nausea And Exhaustion While Taking Alprim

Hi, I have been taking alprim for five days now and I never felt so ill in all my life (I am 71). Nausea, almost total debility to the point of exhaustion, sore tongue and a lip sore - the first in God knows how many years. I have two more tablets to go to finish the course. Up to the moment they don t appear to be doing the trick. It s Sat morning here, the surgery is closed of course and I don t want to present myself to casualty. So, should I be experiencing these symptoms as extreme as this. I will finish the course on Sunday Night Kind regards, Anthony Friel (Hervey Bay Qld).

Hi,

Alprim commonly causes nausea and also allergies in the form of skin rashes. The sulphamethoxazole component of the drug causes side effects commonly. In case of excess vomiting, you may have to take an anti-emetic half an hour before food. You can also stop the drug and switch over to other effective antibiotic in case of severe side effects.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
