I am recently veing tested for pelvic inflammatory disease and find the oozing belly button severely uncomfortable. I ve been trying to keep it clean with water on a qtip to keep from drying. Is this proper and can you recommend a way to deal with the irritation feeling? I am on antibiotics u til the results come back. Thank you
Hi. Thank for your query. Noted the history of under investigations for pelvic inflammatory disease. Found that the belly button is oozing and uncomfortable, trying to keep it clean with water on qtip to keep it from drying, wants to know whether this is proper and wants recommendations. The commonest causes of belly button infection are: Granuloma or a sinus tract This can be diagnosed by CT scan I would advise you the following: Cean the belly button with hydrogen peroxide to remove the diert and the hypergranulation tissues. Apply liquid povidone iodine. This may help and curratage of the granulation to be done if required and this will be sufficient for the cure. If there is a sinus or fistulous tract, you need a formal surgery to get a cure. Get an opinion of a General Surgeon and Gynecologist to cover the other problems.
