Suggest Remedy For Pain And Aches After Injury To Knee

I fell and injured my right knee (which I also had polio in) on Dec. 18, 2014. I had an MRI in the beginning or March which didn t show anything. I recently started physical therapy. I have had 5 sessions to strengthen the leg. For the past week and a half, my body aches all over, especially the lower back and I am always cold. I can t seem to get warm. I have taken Ibuprofen and tylenol and nothing is helping. I sleep on a heating pad to help with the pain and to get warm. I contacted my primary care physician because the MRI technician said he saw something in the film that warranted a CBC and she more or less blew me off. I go to her once a year for an annual check up, a cardiologist twice a year (CAD) and a vascular doctor (PAD) twice a year. My primary care doctor has always been on top of things but she said You re getting older. You re going to have aches and pains. I realize that, but this doesn t seem right to me. Any suggestions?

Hi,

It is important to determine the cause of the pain and aches after the knee injury. It could be related to the injury itself or it could be related to other conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, or a nerve disorder. The MRI may not have shown anything significant, but it is possible that further imaging studies such as a CT scan or ultrasound could provide more information.

In the meantime, several remedies can help with pain and aches:
* Rest: A way to reduce inflammation and promote healing is by resting the injured area.
* Ice: Applying ice to the affected area for 20 minutes at a time, several times a day, can help reduce swelling and pain.
* Heat: Using a heating pad or warm towel on the affected area can help relax muscles and reduce pain.
* Physical therapy: Working with a physical therapist can help strengthen the muscles around the affected area and improve flexibility.
* Medications: Inflammation and pain can be reduced with the use of OTC medication like Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen. Prescription pain medications may be needed in severe cases.

It is also important to follow up with your primary care physician or another healthcare provider to determine the underlying cause of the pain and aches and to develop an appropriate treatment plan.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
