General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain and swelling in knuckles during cold season is normal. Cold weather can cause small blood vessels near the surface of your skin to tighten. Once you warm up, these small vessels may expand too quickly. The swelling then irritates nerves in the affected area, causing pain.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
