Suggest Remedy For Pain At Injury Site After Undergoing Rehabiliation

My brother met with an accident last May and is injured at T12(Grade-A). He is undergoing rehabilitation and is gaining some function. He is now able to walk with the help of calipers and a walker. Recently he says he feels a sting of pain at the point of injury. Its not severe but the pain is there. Could you explain why this occurs and possibly any suggestions to avoid this pain?
