Hello
A possibility might be a leaking Bakers Cyst. This is a small cyst behind the knee that can sometimes leak fluid. The fluid can track down the leg and cause discomfort in the calf area. This is a benign condition and doesn't need any X-rays or scans etc

You can give him Tylenol or ibuprofen. Have him elevate the leg a few times a day if possible. I'm sure it will get better in a few days. If he develops more pain or swelling then please take him to the ER for assessment.

best wishes.
