General & Family Physician 's  Response
hi
thank you for asking your concern and welcome to HCM. long history of steroid gives rise to ankylosis of joint or any acute bactrial infection may be present. if joint is swollen, pain on touch, red, warm to touch then it is infection. in this case strong intravenous antibiotics are necessary and some blood test also necessary to check causative organism. if none of above is there but joint stiffness is there then ankylosis can be suspected. i suggest you to consult any orthopedic surgeon to have recent x ray and diagnosis and if ankylosis is present then joint replacement surgery may be needed.
