Suggest Remedy For Partial Bowel Obstruction Due To Ovarian Cancer

How can I help my friend who has a partial bowel obstruction (due to Stage 4 ovarian cancer). She has received palliative treatment for 2 1/2 years now. I travel with her to a Cancer Center out of state as her husband must take care of their 5 year old and keep his job. I am often at a loss on how to help her. She believes the bowel obstruction to be a passing thing and hesitates to take laxitives or even advil for pain. How can I assist her?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your friend having ovarian cancer and symptoms of bowel obstruction.
I would advise her the following:
To get contest enhanced CT scan of the whole abdomen.
This will show the status of cancer, any obstruction or so and will guide for further management.
She may try liquid diet and supplements of all sorts if there is partial one.
If there are signs of more then surgery may be needed.
