Suggest Remedy For Persistent Pain In Both Knees

I have been having pain in both knees for a few months. It s gotten much worse. I climb stairs to my apartment everyday. My left one is much worse. The pain extends into both upper and lower leg, with the upper feeling very heavy. They also hurt going down the stairs. It hurts to try to walk or even just resting. I don t have money for a regular dr visit right now, no insurance, nor money for urgent care. I feel my only option is the ER, but I don t know if this is bad enough for that. Ibuprofen doesn t help. I m not sure what to do.

Hi.
I've gone through your query and I can understand your anxiety.

Persistent Knee Pain is the most commonly reported problem. History doesn't have any report about your age. As certain condition is common in elderly.

It might be the result of
1. Inflammatory conditions like Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis or Gout.
2. Tendinitis or Bursitis or damage to the cartilage
3. Infections or Baker’s cyst
4. Obesity affecting the weight bearing joint.

I advice you to,
- Stay fit & healthy by doing regular exercises.

- Take analgesics & anti-inflammatory

- Glucocorticoids injection into the joints if pain & swelling persists even after using analgesics.

- Also try chrondroprotective agents twice daily

- Do CRP and RA factors to rule out arthritis.

- Xray both knees if needed

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
