Suggest Remedy For Severe Back Pain In An Elderly Person

I'm a 55 year old woman. I've never had back problems but lately I've had terrible upper/middle back pain. I noticed it started after holding a baby for a lengthy time. It would come and go, but tonight, after cleaning out the garage, I'm in excruciating pain and can't seem to get any relief. What can I do?

So there are lots of causes which are responsible for such a type of pain. It may be due to your post menopausal state wherein certain hormones like oestrogen. One of the commonest being Osteoporosis that affects bone density leading to vertebral fractures occurring with slightest work load. The pain is excruciating in such conditions.
Other than that disc changes wherein the fluid between the vertebraes are reduced causing friction inbetween and also causing nerve irritaion if any fracture, prolapse occurs. tHESE THINGS ARE COMMON AS AGE INCREASES.
THE best way to tackle all these issues at home is first include food items in your diet that are very rich in calcium . Reduce the activities that force you to bend too much. SEE YOUR ORTHOPAEDICIAN , check with him in person if you are really requiring any medications , belts or any advanced management like surgery. If its a hormonal problem, then hormone replacement will be suggested for proper formation of your bones.Examine your hands and legs carefully if you feel any overgrowth, limitation of movement or any grating sensations while moving your limbs. If any of the above is there, then your doc may suggest you to do a X RAYs. Taking pain medications right now will be good for short term therapy but for the good you must visit your doctor

Hey.
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
In my opinion the reason for your back pain seems to be your advancing age.
If i were your treating doctor, then i would have done certain tests like X-RAY LUMBAR SPINE and VITAMIN-D3 and CALCIUM LEVELS and then i would have planned accordingly based on the reports.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have further questions i will be happy to help you.

Take good care.
