Suggest Remedy For Severe Vomiting Episodes Due To Food Allergy

I had a bout of severe vomiting beginning Thurs evening around 8 pm, progressively worsening until it finally stopped about 7 hours later. Contributing factors: I had eaten prior, a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, and a small bowl of squash & rice chili. Small amounts of fresh fruit. I started feeling a bit nausea, and then boarded a train. Within 15 minutes, I was vomiting, and had several bouts, each worsening over the next 2 hours. At times it was so forceful it felt like it was damaging my esophagus. All of the food I had eaten was ejected. I was finally able to exit the train, get a cab, get to a hotel, where I vomited several more times over the next 3 hours. It has now been over 24 hours, and I have eaten very small amounts of soup & cooked oatmeal, a few saltine crackers, sipping water and herbal teas. My abdomen is sore, and my head feels achy and painful. I feel lethargic, even though I have slept most of the day Friday and Friday night.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history in detail and understood the concerns.
The persistent vomiting after the foods and beverages that you took can be due to intolerance to some and most probably can be food poisoning or intestinal infection as ou still have headache and not welling well and are lethargic.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
First of all consult a Doctor for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations of stool.
Tests of blood, particularly CBC, Electrolytes, kidney and liver function.
Lots of vomiting causes potassium depletion and thus can cause lethargy and severe weakness.
You need to have replacement of fluids and electrolytes either by intravenous route or orally if vomiting has stopped.
PPI like Omeprazole and Domperidone for gastritis and stopping vomiting and nausea.
If ther eis any evidence of infection then a course of an antibiotic and metronidazole may be needed.
Ad on probiotics.
Once the condition improves, vomiting and nausea stops, you can take oral replacement of fluids and electrolytes, other medications as needed.
Take rest.
Do not eat outside food.
Take care.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, General Surgeon.
