Suggest Remedy For Tinnitus And Headache Post Treatment For Stiff Neck

I had an episode involving muscle tightness in my neck. A muscle relaxant was prescribed (cyclobatine) and after four days (one per day) I awoke to ringing in my ears and a net of nerves starting from the back of my neck to my forehead. A constant headache persists after three weeks now as well as the ringing in my ears (tinnitus) I have added an anti-inflammatory (meloxocam) to hydrochloriquin. I have had the neck tightness resolved through dry needling and still the problem persists. Who do I see? Neurologist, eye, ear, nose and throat, migraine specialist, physiatrist???? Help--P. Hello,

You are suffering from tinnitus and headache post treatment for stiff neck. It is good to know that your stiff neck has been treated. Headache is commonly due to dehydration, inhalation of strong smell, excessive exposure to sunlight, depletion of sodium -potassium in your electrolyte system, stress, skipping of meals, gastritis, etc.

Take acetaminophen or triptans(sumatriptan), one SOS when required to get rid of headache / migraine. Stay adequately hydrated with water and fluids. Make sure your vitals are normal. Do not skip meals, avoid taking food that triggers formation of gas.

For tinnitus, get clinically examined by an ENT, get required investigations, imaging and audiometry tests done to detect wax, perforation or infection in the middle ear that is causing ringing in the ears. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected. If required, you will be referred to a neurologist for further investigations, detailed study and management thereafter.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
