Suggest Remedy For Very Slow Development Procedure In 1 Year Old

Hi Doc,

I have a one yearold boy (Aarav) who has a pretty slow milestone development
Current he only creeps with speed- does not crawl, does not sit on his own, but has learnt to balance himself when offlate someone makes him sit, tries to stand up though not steady yet, has not got even a single tooth, walking -:( a long way to go
My Pediatrician has suggested physiotherapy to just give him the required push, although she is sure he will make it soon. Otherwise he is very active child.
Is it a cause of concern since I am a little scared to go in for physiotherapy. Also would like to know what kind of physiotherapy will it be?

Thanks,
Minal Parker

Pediatrician 's  Response
Thank you for consulting in HealthCareMagic. I have gone carefully through the details provide by you and understand your concern. I really needed to know if the child was born preterm and whether he cried properly after birth and whether he suffered from any deficiency of oxygen (hypoxia) during that period. Although there could be other causes, most importantly inadequate oxygenation of blood after birth, due to any cause can cause damage to the brain and may hamper development.
Your son needs to be taken to a hospital with facilities of neurodevelopmental followup and developmental assessment. His exact developmental age needs to be assessed and supportive management needs to be given accordingly. Early intervention gives good response. The physiotherapy that your doctor has suggested is important. It is basically passive exercising in order to help him catch up. It needs to be given. Such physiotherapy is available at the centres with neurodevelopmental followup and developmental assessment facilities.
