Suggest Remedy To Get Easy Bowel Movements

My daughter is 16 yrs old. She is having trouble getting her poop to come out of her rectum. Her pediatrician told her to take Miralax, she did and then felt abdominal pain and stopped using it. She feels the urge/pressue to go but it won t come out. She can get it to come out if she sticks her finger in her anus. She says it is too soft and won t come out. Can there be a blockage in her rectum causing the poop not to come out? We went to a pediatric gastro doctor and she said the same thing her pediatrician said, take miralax for 2 weeks. She has missed 2 weeks of school because she can t focus or concentrate because she always feels this constant urge to go and then nothing comes out. Would a scope help with this? At first we thought chewing gum was blocking her rectum because she will chew a pack of gum and swallow it all at one time?? We are at a loss as to what to do. She did get an x-ray of her abdomen and we were told that she has a lot of stools throughout her colon. She did the ex-lax at bedtime, ex-lax in the morning then the 10 capfuls of miralax in the 64 oz of gatoraid. She experienced diarreaha with mucus but no fecal matter. What should we do next? She has taken lots of different laxatives and enemas and nothing seems to help.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my case evaluation, she has basically peristaltic disturbances through chronic indigestion due to various reasons.

* Laxative is not the solution as the basic problem has to be figured out and treated in accordance with following guidelines:

- allow her plenty of liquids
- get diet management with high fibre as green leafy veg, organic fresh fruits, whole grains, cereals, pulses, legumes
- she must avoid all dairy fat, biscuits, pasta, pastries, non-veg, junk foods
- regular walking, exercises
- oral hygiene and proper chewing of foodstuff
- maintain her body weight on a regular basis

Wish her best health ahead. Do continue to use our medical services.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
