Suggest Risk With Immobilization For Crack In Humerus

I am a 56 year old female. My elbow was fractured as a result of an accident. I was told it was a crack in the humerus. The doctor put my arm in a cast for 5 weeks. Then my arm was in a sling for another week. It s been a week since the sling was removed and although there has been some improvement in extension, there is little or no progress in flexion. Is 6 weeks of immobilization too long for treatment of a crack in humerus, considering the risks of immobilization?

No, it is absolute right to keep your arm immobilized for six weeks so it is not wrong. A fracture takes time to heal and specially in post menopausal females this time can be little longer. I would recommend you to meet a physiotherapist and discussed with him about all this. You will need to do physiotherapy for range of motion exercises.
I would also suggest you to do hot water fomentation. Do not do any type of massage or any forced manipulation.
