Suggest Safe Enema Procedures Post Cystocele Repair And Hysterectomy
I just had surgery on Friday. A cystocele repair with mesh sling, hysterectomy and posterior repair. I m extremely constipated. I ve been using a stool softener to no avail, drinking lots of liquid and prune juice. I have an enema here but didn t know if it would be safe.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history of undergoing cystocele repair, hysterectomy and posterior repair. Using stool softener but constipation is still lingering, Have an enema but is worried about the safety. Since you have undergone an extensive surgery, there would be edema, fibrosis, change in local anatomy, pain and so on. It takes time to get adjusted to the new environment. I would advise you the following: Get an X-ray of the abdomen done and if there area fecoliths you have to get a formal saline+soap enema till clearing the colon of the feces. Take the diet such suits you the best and avoid all the foods and beverages that you know of causing constipation in the past. Get a review by your operating surgeon.
