Suggest Side Effects Of Stopping Oxycontin And Oxycodone

If a person had extensive surgery on his back and was told he may never walk . Has been on 40mg OxyContin and 60 mg of oxicodin at the same time for over 10 years . He getting ready to go cold turkey and quit . He is in great shape his age is 54 . What would be the most worst case or harm that he could do to himself ?

The withdrawal is unlikely to do severe injury. THere is severe discomfort. There can be significant nausea, diarrhea and potential for dehydration. Frankly, the amount of narcotics mentioned is not high enough to do a lot of that. Peak is at about 5 to 7 days with some residual withdrawal for a week after than. Lomotil is specific for lowering the diarrhea (it is a narcotic but does not get out of the gut).
In theory the elevated blood pressure and pulse from withdrawal could precipitate a heart attack, but this is quite rare.
