Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father has just been diagnosed with type II diabetes. He is a healthy weight. It runs in my fathers family as well as high cholesterol/ and high blood pressure. I am desperate to lose weight as I know I may develop all of the above. I am 33 have PCOS weigh 22st 3 pounds and have tried every healthy eating plan, liquid diet and have not managed to keep weight off. My knees sound like cornflakes and I have arthritis in my ankles. I have taken xenical in the past but it did not affect me. I hate going to my doctor with anything as I am sure they just look at me and think everything is down to my weight. Is there anything else I can get offered by my doctor if I pluck up the courage to go and ask?
Dear Madam, Thanks for seeking help on your issue; I have gone through your symptoms, and in my opinion, you should be brave and courageous enough to face the fact that degenerative arthritis can very well be caused by excessive weight. Now get your endocrinological evaluation including thyroid status, and control your weight first, see ortho doctors will only be able to help you out if you control weight as any procedure conservative or surgery is bound to fail if weight is not controlled. i think with todays modern medicine its easy to work up and control your weight, consult a dietician, and endocrinologist and sought out the issue. I hope I have been able to provide you with a satisfactory solution, if you want to clear any doubts about my opinion, feel free to contact. Special note- Any medication prescribed needs to be taken after consultation with your personal doctor only. Thanks Dr. Narender Saini
