Suggest Toilet Training For My Four Year Old Son

HI, I'M TOILET TRAINNING MY 4Y/P BOY AND I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT IF I SHOULD HAVE HIM PULL HIS UNDIES DOWN OR TRY AND USE THE UNDIES OPENING. MY HUSBAND SAYS GUYS DON'T USE THE OPENING, TO ME THAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. IF THEY DON'T AND PULL THEY STUFF OUT OVER THE ELASTIC, THEY END UP EXPOSING ALL THEIR STUFF. SO IN SUMARY, I GUESS FOR MY BOY IT MIGHT BE EASIER OVER THE TOP, BUT WHAT ABOUT IN THE LONG RUN?
