Suggest Treatment For Barrett S Esophagus Other Than Surgery

My brother may be going in for an operation for Barrett s esophagus, pre cancerous. They will be doing extensive reorganizing of his organs from the throat to the stomach and more. What will he be like after?? He is a very active 71 year old now. I do not want him to have his quality of life diminished. I want to trust that this is the way to go but I have so many doubts. Are there other treatments?? Treatments that are not so invasive?? He has had acid reflex for many years and may have had an ulcer. He had child hood asthma. I read that the condition of the esophagus is an autoimmune issue. Please advise of tell me the pros and cons. I wish for more info. Thank you,

Hi, welcome to Health care magic forum.
Barrett's esophagus does not have any symptoms, except the G.E.R.D,It increase the risk of developing esophageal adenocarcinoma, which is a serious, potentially fatal cancer of the esophagus.
The treatment includes Photodynamic therapy (PDT)Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR)Surgery to remove most of the esophagus is an option in cases where severe precancer (dysplasia) or cancer has been diagnosed
If you are against the surgery you can discuss with your doctor
regarding the other procedures.
Wishing for a quick and complete recovery. Thank you.
