Hi welcome to Healthcaremagic,
Since you have mentioned that your doctor diagnosed
Irritable Bowel Syndrome, I suppose you must have underwent investigations to rule out other gastrointestinal causes of your symptoms, if not reply we'll be able to guide you.
From your symptoms of
chronic abdominal pain, discomfort and bloating, i feel the treatment will need a change in diet followed by drugs.
In diet, completely avoid milk and milk products since most patients with Irritable bowel syndrome will have a component of
lactose intolerance. Later you may need to try a low FODMAP diet but it's difficult to stick on. Please reply if you want more details on low FODMAP diet.
If you have either associated diarrhoea or
constipation I would suggest a preparation of Ispagula husk, which contain soluble fibre and is effective in both to maintain stool consistency.
A probiotic preparation should also be taken. At times when the bloated feel is so uncomfortable you can have a
domperidone tablet.
We will try with this first line treatment, if not achieving effect in 2 months we may have to go for the next.
Do reply.
Thank you.
