Suggest Treatment For Meniere S Disease

I was diagnosed with Meneires Disease approx. 5 yrs ago. I was given Meclizine. I took allergy shots to see if that would help (it did not) I was given fluid pills to see if that would help. I was unable to take the fluid pills as i had no fluid in my body except in the ears and it made my legs cramp severely. My dr now wants me to take steriods to see if that will help. I was advised by my medical dr several years ago NOT to take steriods as I had a bad reaction to them. My dr now wants to put stents in my ear(s) to see if that will help. I had to quit working because of this condition and I filed for disability. I am not a dependable employee now as the M.D has gotten worse of the years. It has affected my hearing as well. What are your suggestions? I don t want to go through with the stent unless I know for sure that it is going to help me. I have an episode about 3 times a month now. Please advise me on how to handle this. Thanks so much

hello..welcome to healthcare magic...I will try to solve your problem as possible. first of all you should know your disease ....menieres disease is an inner ear disease due to overproduction of endolymph which leads to dilatation of endolymphatic sac. It is mostly of unknown etiology.here are some DO'S and Don't that you should follow:
1. you should at first remove all your anxiety and stress as this disease is not going to take your life.
2.quit smoking and alcohol if you do.
3.avoid tea,coffee,chocolate,cheese
4.take low salt diet
5.avoid too much of water intake
During the acute attack phase: take as much bed rest as possible.dont move your head much..Avoid travelling, underwater diving or flying.
these are the general measures that you need to follow.
however you also need to be put on drugs like Dramamine/bihistine/diazepam...you also need to start with diuretic tab FRUSEMIDE 40 mg od with potassium supplementation. if you are allergic to steroids no need to start with. diuretics will help. you will surely be able to handle this if you don't want intratympanic gentamycin therapy or surgery. gud luck...
