Suggest Treatment For UTI In An Elderly Person

Why are there signs of confusion associated with uti's in the elderly? 96 year old aunt was delusional and extremely agitated while in hospital 3 months ago and it is starting all over again with a current infection. She lives in a personal care home and it seems to take forever for dr to get a diagnosis and then culture. YYYY@YYYY

I hope this will help
Confusion often accompanies UTI and constipation and fever in adults.. They easily get disoriented and fail to recognize faces of loved ones,also they may drowsy or irritable, urinary incontinence may occur with all this..even coma can ensue in severe conditions...
I would advise you consult your GP and to have her URINE RE AND CULTURE SENSITIVITY TEST asap..
Mean while she should be started on antibiotic like DOXYCYLINE 100MG TWICE A day
Or tab AUGMENTIN 1GM TWICE DAILY..
ImProve her hydration and give urine alklanizer like Crane Berry juice..
