Suggest Treatment For A Painful Bump On The Shin After An Injury

Hey there, Like 3 months ago, I think I hit my leg against a cabinet. Now, it left a big round bump on the front of my shin, below my knee. It is warm to the touch and very painful when pressed. Any idea what it could be? Any remedies to consider? Thanks, Mike

Hello,

You have likely inflamed one of the bursa of your knee, based on what you are telling me it is the infrapatellar bursa. The bursa is basically like small fluid-filled sacs that decrease friction.

We have them in a lot of places including the tip of our elbows, our shoulder, and our knee. Sometimes if they get hit they can get inflamed, enlarged, and red.

Usually the treatment is just symptomatic. Sometimes they can get infected which can be treated with antibiotics and in some cases surgery.

I would get it evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon if it is really bothering you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
