Suggest Treatment For A Pus Filled Lump On Knee In A Child

My son has a large, green , ous filled pimple on his knee which is painful to the touch, appears to be swollen and is making him limp. He is only two years old so cannot tell me anything but what should I do? Should I pop it with a sterile needle and empty the stuff out or take him in?

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

From what you describe your son has a superficial access over his knee joint. He may require a formal incision and drainage in the OR and antibiotics. I would also be concerned if he is limping that there may be communication between the access and the joint. You should take him to hospital for assessment and treatment.

I hope this answers your question.

Best wishes
