Suggest Treatment For A Red Rash On The Lower Leg

My friend has a sudden, over about a days time, red rash on his lower leg. It itches somewhat and is warm. It s about five inches in diameter. With a fairly defined edge. There is anger on e other leg just beginning. No sign of insect bite and not poison ivy. Maybe phlebitis?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to phlebitis. A physical examination is needed to confirm the diagnosis. Treatment for phlebitis includes
1) Warm compresses
2) Anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen.
3) Compression stockings may help

If there is a skin infection associated with the superficial phlebitis, antibiotics may be prescribed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
