Suggest Treatment For A Red Thick Circle On The Arm

Hi , I have taken my son to the doctor with what I thought could be the start of a ring worm. My son and I returned from New Zealand and shortly there after, a red half circle appeared about 2 mls thick and about 2 1/2 cm long in a smile on his arm. I treated with canesten thinking it was a ring worm however nothing cleared up. took him to local doctor who treated him with steroid cream for eczema this has still not cleared up and doctor has no idea - referred to dermatologist and am now on waiting list to get it. To me it looks like some sort of parasite, I have found an identical picture on the internet however the picture does not say what it is - any ideas

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of red thick circle on the arm which seems to be due to contact dermatitis. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like allergic reaction, psoriasis , skin infection, fungal infection. I would suggest you to keep your skin clean and dry , protect it from direct sun light . If condition doesn't get well then consult dermatologist for proper examination. Doctor may order certain test like skin patch test , blood test , allergy test and take history to rule out the side effects of certain drug . Doctor may prescribe immunosuppressants along with anti inflammatory and corticosteroid ointment. Doctor may also prescribe antifungal like fluconazole or anti bacterial like clindamycin. You should apply only petroleum jelly and take antihistamine like benadryl twice a day. Avoid touching or pricking rashes and apply ice pack to reducing swelling .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
