Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Distension With Cramps

I need some answers to help my father-in-law please. His symptoms are the following: when he eats, his stomach swells till it looks like its going to bust. He said that the left side of his intestines growls all the time. HIs stomach cramps him constantly. We thought that he might be constipated or impacted, but he takes meds to help him have a bowl movement, but he s not been able to go for at least two days now, and i m concerned for him cause I believe that its getting worse. So if you could please help me in trying to find him some relieve or suggest something for him to take over the counter I would really appreciate your help. He has a regular gastroenterologist in our home town, but we our out-of-town for four days and I need some answers for him. Thank-you for your time and help.

Hello
I really appreciate your concern for your father in law.
abdominal distension or excess gas in the abdomen might be related to Aerophagia ( swallowing of air ), us elf carbonated drinks, smoking and ill fitted denture, indigestion or acid peptic disease
Constipation could be a contributory factor for abdominal distension

Please follow these guidelines
Give him some laxatives or stool softeners like liquid paraffin or lactulose which is also available over the counter to relieve acute constipation
Give plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables it dietary fiber supplements
Ask him to take lots of water 3 to 4 liters a day.
Ask him to drink lukewarm water on getting up in the morning and take a small walk
Avoid fatty fried spicy and junk food or carbonated drinks

Hope this answers your question
Best wishes
