Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my mother has an abdominal hernia which requires surgery. At a recent visit with her OBgyn for a prolasped uterus repair, he found some fecal matter in her womb; said something about a possible fissure. Her OBgyn recommender she see a specialist; her pcp provided a referral, but no actual referral to a doctor to treat her. I am unaware if this is a medical emergency. Should I take my mother to ugent care today? My mother has other health issues (liver autoimmune disease, hbp, taking medication, VAS stroke in 1995, currently bad leg pain on stroke side and GERD. Recently treated at the hospital for "an infection and low blood glucose, in the 20s.).
Hi, Fecal matter in the womb indicates an open connection from colon, rectum or anal canal to the uterus. It can complicate and cause genitourinary infection which can be life threatening. Your mother is already suffering from other medical issues, which if could complicate things if this condition escalates. Meet your doctor and you need to get a proctoscopy / colonoscopy done to evaluate the presence of fistula. Dye injection in to fistula might be necessary to evaluate connection. You can meet a surgeon to get evaluated with the above tests. Any further queries, happy to help again.
