Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Pain In A Child
Hello Doctor, My son is 3 years old, since morning he is complaining of abdominal pain, since morning he has emptied his stomach 3 times. His body temperature in the afternoon was 102 Degrees , we have given him 7ml Nimulide. Fever has come down but he is still crying with abdominal pain. Please suggest which medicine he should be given to get rid of stomach pain. Thanks in advance. Regards, Jay

Hi,
Fever, abdominal pain and loose stools indicates acute gastro enteritis / food poisoning. Just give him ORS solution (around 10ml/kg after each stools in small sips), zinc supplementation, and paracetamol. Paracetamol will help fever as well as abdominal pain(if not, i used to give ibuprofen and atispasmodics like dicyclomine also). If fever is not coming down, very lethargic, not feeding well or the stool is blood stained, kindly take him to doctor as he may need antibiotics and fluid infusion. Meanwhile avoid sugary items, juices and fruits now as it can increase diarrhea.
