Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Pain, blood In Stool And Diarrhea

I had a fistulotomy 2 months ago. I had pain for the first week and was fine after that. I still had discharge but it was lightening gradually and I was hopeful it would be gone in a few weeks. Then a couple of weeks ago I started getting pain in my left buttock and thought maybe the abscess was returning. My wound looked to be healing well and there was no sign of infection. The local walk in sent me for an ultrasound but it returned nothing. Since then I have had occasional abdominal pains and bloody stools (for about a week). There is no blood between movements but always on the tissue and a coating on the stool. The stools have been fairly loose, so it s not from straining. I ve also been noticing undigested food in my stools. I have called the surgeon who did my surgery (she is a two hour drive away) but she has not called me back in the 2 days since then. I don t know how concerned to be or what I should do next. The pain and discomfort sometimes wakes me at night and the anxiety is turning my stomach. Help!

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

After going through your query, this abdominal pain with blood in stool occasionally and diarrhea can be due to fistula operation or irritable bowel syndrome or uncommonly inflammatory bowel disease like chron's disease or ulcerative colitis but needs to be evaluated further by clinical examination and relevant investigations.

You should undergo routine blood works, stool investigations with ultrasound of abdomen and if all these investigations come normal then lower GI endoscopy would be helpful.

Treatment is mainly based on the underlying cause but symptomatic treatment can be taken like antibiotics, anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen and anti-emetics.

It would better to see your treating surgeon or gastroenterologist for further advise.

Thanks and regards,
I find this answer helpful
