Suggest Treatment For Accidental Ingestion Of High Doses Of Xarelto
My 72 year old husband who is on xeralto for Afib accidentally took his 20 mg dose twice today. He took one this morning then another this evening about 11 hours later. He usually only takes one 20 mg dose in evening. He was supposed to take digoxin this morning but instead took the xeralto, then took the xeralto again this evening. Should we be concerned?
He just needs to be observed. In a patient suffering from atrial fibrillation, the recommended dose of Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) is 20 mg to be taken once daily with the evening meal.
So, he seems to have taken an extra 20 mg which may not cause any harmful effects, as such, however, he should be observed for any abnormal bleeding or bruising, nose bleeds, black stools, blood in urine, coughing up blood or vomiting blood. He should be taken to the hospital immediately if he develops the signs and symptoms of overdose if any.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
