Hello,

The polio, it seems, has caused a significant shift of your gait (walking ability) causing significant strain on your ankle joint. I'm sure this has caused some premature arthritis to develop in that joint. I'm not sure if you can confirm this or not, or if X-rays have been completed on your ankles in the past.

I would ask if any of the typical NSAIDS (Motrin, Aleve, etc.) have shown any improvement in your symptoms? I do think seeing an orthopedic surgeon would be beneficial, they have the ability to inject triamcinolone (a steroid) into the joint which would provide substantial relief. Surgical intervention is also possible, but this would involve likely a fusion of the joint itself which would significantly limit the mobility.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
